Cooling Tower Operational Chemicals

In a cooling water system with a cooling tower, cool water is pumped away from the cooling tower and is circulated through the heat exchangers thereby cooling another medium and the water from the cooling tower become warmer. The warmed water then returns back to the cooling tower. In cooling tower, the warmed water is sprayed downward, and the air is blown upward with a fan. As the warmed water droplets contact the air, some of the water droplets evaporate, and the air absorb the heat released from this evaporation, thereby lowering the temperature of the remaining water.

Cooling Tower – Treatment Program Objectives:

The prescribed treatment program will maximize plant efficiency and reliability by minimizing problems associated with corrosion and eposition. The treatment program is designed to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Control and minimize cooling water system corrosion
  • Control and minimize deposition and scale
  • Control microbiological population
  • To be able to operate at highest cycles of concentration.

“THE OBJECTIVE OF THE COOLING TOWER WATER MANAGEMENT IS TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEMS OF SCALING, CORROSION BY MANAGING THE MAKE-UP WATER AND COOLING TOWER WATER AS PER THE SPECIFIED NORMS”.

POLYPROTECT-1000

POLYPROTECT – 1000 is designed as an all-organic treatment for, recirculating cooling water systems. The product is formulated with a combination of organic phosphonates, polymeric dispersal and an azole corrosion inhibitor specifically selected for systems, which are operated with moderately high hardness and alkaline makeup waters. PPT – 1000 is required to keep larger of scalant in solution. PPT – 1000 is primarily used to control scale precipitates and corrosion in Cooling Tower Water.

POLYPROTECT-3000

POLYPROTECT – 3000 is a concentrated, liquid polyphosphate formulation utilized for the treatment of portable water distribution systems. The product may also be used in once through cooling tower systems and under certain conditions, in recirculating cooling application.PPT-3000 is designed to provide both corrosion control and sequestration of iron and manganese at low treatment dosages.

BCT-100

BCT – 100 is a concentrated quaternary based algaecide for use in recirculating cooling tower water systems. The product is effective over a wide pH range against algae, fungi, and slime forming bacteria typically found in these systems. Unlike most similar products, it is an exceptional wetting agent and at normal use concentrations, it will cause only minimal foaming in the treated systems. It is compatible with most water treatment formulations but should not be used with soap, sulfated oils or anionic surfactants. It is believed that where water is present biological activity is present. Bacteria free feed water to system is very difficult to maintain, however control of biological activity can be achieved by dosing BCT–100. To assure proper additions are made. If necessary, increase the treatment frequency to bring the system under control.

There is a field test available to check the concentration of the product in the system. Badly fouled systems should be cleaned prior to treatment.

BCT-200

BCT – 200 contains surface active agents effective for use as a bio penetrate and organic slime/slit dispersant in cooling water systems. It is especially effective in control and cleanup of slime masses resulting from algal growth and bacterial biofilms. Its surface active and hydrophobic properties aid maintenance of clean surface and inhibition of corrosion. It is also highly effective as a penetrant when using chlorine or bromine base biocide or other biocides not possessing surface activity. BCT – 200 used with an effective biocide can help to maintain cleaner heat transfer surface and improve control of microbiological fouling. Minimal fouling, BCT – 200 is typically slug dosed at a rate of 10-30 ppm 1-3 times per week. Dosage of 30-50 ppm 2-3 times per week should be fed to the systems subject to moderate contamination.

FORMULA-1250

Global water industrial services offer superior quality performance characteristics over a range of applications. The antiscalant chemical from Gwis Pakistan is designed to eliminate scale and reduce fouling in membrane systems, regardless of the feed water source. Gwis – Pakistan offers FORMULA-1250 as an antiscalant. It is a liquid antiscalant/dispersant blended to inhibit scale and disperse colloidal particles in cellulose acetate and thin film membrane separation systems.
